The Centre was set up using funds from the Mayor of Bury's Jubilee Trust and the Bury Ragged Schools Trust. It was formally opened in 1984 but was extensively refurbished in 1996. The Hostel is run by a voluntary Management Committee from the Bury Area of Greater Manchester, England. The Bury Hostel itself is located near Glenridding, Central Lake District. The Hostel is available to all, but priority is given to user groups from the Bury area - particularly over school and public holidays. The Centre's accommodation may be hired for a weekend, weekly, or even daily basis, but preference is given to weekly and weekend bookings. Current (2007) charges for non-Bury groups are £270 for weekend use and £85 per day mid week use. Bury groups pay lower rates. A deposit of £50 is required on confirmation of a booking. The balance must be paid before use.
